Washboard Roads And Skipping Stones
Everyone who drives on Neebish Island's gravel roads is familiar with the washboarding phenomenon. Turns out the physics involved are similar to stone skipping. See: Scientists explore the physics of bumpy roads
There is also a Mythbusters episode where they confirmed that driving at a higher speed over washboard roads results in a smoother ride because the car's wheels "travel over just the ridges and not into the troughs, allowing for a relatively smoother ride."
I've found that driving at around 35 mph on Neebish's gravel roads results in the smoothest ride in my car.
